Around 650 million girls are married before their 18th birthday according to collected data from forty one states more then 200,000 minors were married in the U.S. between 2000 and 2015. Children who are forcibly married are robbed from their rights, education, and safety they are not physically or mentally ready to become wives or mothers. Child marriage happens more to girls then it does to boys because many communities that practice child marriage girls are not valued as much as boys are. Girls are seen as burdens to their family so marrying their daughter to someone would be like transferring the burden to someone else in some cases marrying their daughter is a way to repay debts. Before and after marriage the families control their daughter or daughter in laws life they tell her how to dress, who she can see, how to act, and who she would marry. Families guard their daughters sexuality and virginity closely to protect the family honor if she were to date or become pregnant outside marriage she would bring shame and dishonor to the whole family.
